On Friday we celebrated our first Burns Night! Neither of us are Scottish, but we decided that we don’t really need an excuse to eat haggis so we went for it. I may have gone a bit too far and bought tartan fabric, compiled a playlist filled with Scottish classics, brought the haggis out to bagpipes and ended the night with a round of Auld Langs Syne. It was so much fun!
At the weekend I had a meeting in the morning, and then spent the afternoon picking up a couple more gifts for my Mum’s birthday before hopping on a bus to my parent’s house. Well, that was the plan. Apparently the traffic was so awful in the city that all the buses were delayed/cancelled/diverted. Really!? After a 45 minute wait in the cold a bus finally turned up, but stopped short, far before it was supposed to. Thankfully my Dad came and rescued me! I came home to a warm house, a sweet potato and bean curry lovingly cooked by my motherbear and some home-made flapjacks and strawberries for pudding! Perfect. After dinner I slipped into a big bubble bath with a magazine and finally warmed up and relaxed. I really miss having a bath – I hope that when we move, our new place has a bath!
On Sunday we drove to my grandparent’s house in west london and I got to see my grandma for the first time in aaaages. She’s in a care home and I don’t get to visit her nearly as often as I should. In the evening we went out for a meal at our favourite Greek restaurant to celebrate my Mum’s birthday and the food was incredible; lovely houmous and a giant plate of grilled vegetables, rice, potatoes and salad. Yum!
I’m back to reality now, and it’s time to catch up with emails, work and kitty cuddles. This evening is DanceFit and finally spending some time with Trout! I haven’t seen him since Saturday morning, too long!
How was your weekend? Did you celebrate Burn’s Night?
